A Common Sergeant butterfly is so hungry that it doesn’t care how close I get as long as it can continue eating its beloved Golden Shower Tree (Cassia fistula) pod.
Can you see its proboscis (the straw-like thing that sucks up the juices) poking out just ahead of its head?
Did you spot the proboscis in this picture too, all curled up? Did you also spot its compound eyes?
Did you know, butterflies have up to 17,000 mini-eyes in each eye. While we have photoreceptors for only three colors, butterflies have photoreceptors for nine colors, including ultraviolet.
