Common Whispergrass

Tendrillensus stemigriti

  • Size: An average lemongrass plant
  • Voice: A faint hissing sound which penetrates the mind of its victim
  • Status: Uncommon – Stable
  • Diet: Insects, small reptiles, scamlet fleas, ashy serpent-tails & occasionally humans, whom it manages to lure
  • Family Origin: Tendrillensus
  • Speed: N/A, it doesn’t move much
  • Habitat: Gardens, orchards, loves Jackfruit trees. It’s often found underneath one
  • Characteristics: Easily mistaken for a lemongrass or citronella. When anyone is passing by, it buries its head in the soil to hide

The Whispergrass has a long pot-like face. And a freaky tiki face makes it look a bit scary. Its body and limbs are like twigs. It has sharp little claws & sharp little teeth. Its eerie hissing makes minds in the vicinity blur, it befuddles the brain. Cowardly people sometimes black out. Though it can be bloted out easily, 1 out of 100 fall victim to it. After the victim loses consciousness, the Whispergrass crawls out of the hole, & drags the victim in. Even some small animals are relished. Its hair or “grass” is mildly poisonous, if you make tea from that, you’ll have serious tummy trouble.

Very informative! Which is the natural habitat of whisper grass? Can it be propogated or grows only naturally? Giving common Indian names .. at least in Hindi or Gujarati (or Marathi even) will be good. Thanks!

That’s a really interesting question. Its natural habitat is given in the description above, though it’s found in forests also. It is an animal, and cannot be “propagated”. In Marathi, the Whispergrass is known as हिरवाकोल.
